Abstract

576,458. Stud fastenings. SMITH & SONS (ENGLAND), Ltd., S., and HURN, F. J. Sept. 1, 1944, No. 16736. [Class 44] In a rotatable stud fastener of the kind having notches on the stud to engage abutments, e.g., spring abutments, on the other element, a key is engaged with the head of the stud to turn it, and means are provided to allow the key to be engaged and withdrawn only when the stud is in the locking position. For example, the key 21 has a spade-shaped end 22 which passes through a slot in one of the elements 15 to be connected, and engages in a slot in the head of the stud 16 when the latter is in such a position that notches thereon engage spring tongues 13 on the other element 12. On turning the stud to the release position shown in Fig. 2, the key is retained, and can only be withdrawn on turning to the locking position. The invention is stated to be applicable to the fitting of a mask or panel over an instrument support on a motor vehicle, as described in Specification 555,909, [Group XIX].
