Abstract
575,468. Shearing ; straightening. WELWYN ELECTRICAL LABORATORIES, Ltd., and ROBBIE, N. F. March 20, 1944, No. 5185. [Class 83 (iv)] A machine for cutting wire into lengths comprises a reciprocating-gripper feed for drawing the wire from a reel and through a die 40 and straightening means 41, 42 and feeding it through a die 39, the length projecting being cut off by a knife 28 timed to act after every, every other, or every third feed stroke has been completed. Grippers 35, 36 of a slide 32 are reciprocated through a device allowing a little lost motion by an adjustablethrow crank 22 and connecting rod 24. This on the forward stroke tends to make the camlever 37 vertical, thus moving the jaw 36 up to grip the wire. The cutter is raised, against the action of a spring 128, by a cam 27 and gearing 25, 26 to sever the wire directly the rod 24 ceases to advance and before the slide 32 has commenced its return stroke. 41 is a vertical roller straightener and 42 a horizontal one of the castellated gripper type.
