Abstract
575,308. Face shields. ROSENBERG, K. April 12, 1945, No. 4993/44. [Class 97 (i)] In a face shield having a movable protective glass window which is held in the out-of-use position by a catch which is released by movement of the chin operating through a chin strap and transmission member, the transmission member is so arranged that the line of the transmitted force passes through or adjacent to the pivotal axis of the shield on the-head band, so that the operation of releasing the catch does not tend to tilt the shield. As shown, a shield 18 is pivotally mounted at 19 on a head band and is provided with a protective window 21 which when not required is slid vertically and is retained in the raised position by a catch 24 which engages a cranked portion 26 of a horizontally pivoted rod. To return the window to the operative position, the rod is rotated to release the catch by Bowden-wire connections to a chin-strap 43. the casings of the wires being secured at one end 38 to the shield and at the other end 39 to the head band at a point adjacent the pivotal axis 19 of the shield, so that the transmitted force has little tendency to tilt the shield.
