Abstract
575,241. Coke-quenching trucks. WELLMAN SMITH OWEN ENGINEERING CORPORATION, Ltd., and KAY I. March 10, 1944, No. 4476. [Class 51 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXII] In a coke-quenching truck having a floor sloping downwardly towards a side discharge opening fitted with a hinged door 6, the floor is formed of corrugated cast-iron plates 10 extending across the full width of the trucks and supported on a lower floor plate 8 by hooks 12 engaging over channels 8a, this arrangement providing, on the upper surface, gutters for draining away the quenching water and, between the plates 8, 10, cooling channels 28 through which air circulates. The invention is shown applied to a truck divided longitudinally into two parts each having a separate floor tiltable by mechanism 5 about pivots 4, the clearance between the adjoining ends 17 of the floors being covered by inclined plates 21 having depending skirts 22 which direct any water passing through the space 25 into a curved channel 23 from which it is discharged at 26. The transverse joints between adjacent corrugated plates 10 are covered by ridge-pieces 13 formed with depending webs 14 having projections 15 which are secured to the lower floor plate8 by cotters 16. Each plate 10 may be made of sections which, transversely of the truck, overlap after the manner of roofing slates or tiles.
