Abstract

574,294. Wet-separating. KNAPP & BATES, Ltd., and KNAPP, E. A. Jan. 27, 1944, No. 1550. Addition to 535,598. [Class 82 (ii)] The flotation apparatus described in the parent Specification is provided with air holes 6 between the rotary blades 5 of the vortex impeller 4 mounted on the hollow shaft 9, the blades 5 being disposed at a spaced distance within a series of radial fixed baffle blades 7 mounted on the hood cover 8, supported by the inlet 2. The regulator impeller 10 with a plurality of radial blades 11 is mounted on the lower end of the shaft 9, fixed radial baffle blades 12 being provided on a spider 13 to prevent any swirl forcing back' the pulp or slurry towards the inlet 2. The particles to which air bubbles are not attached flow up a channel 23 and over a weir to a sump 14 and thus through an outlet pipe 15 to the next machine in the series. An alternative form of vortex impeller comprises a pair of flanges keyed to the driving shaft and having radial blades integral therewith, air holes being provided between the blades.
