Abstract
574,013. Endless-track vehicles. ROADLESS TRACTION, Ltd., JOHNSON, P. H., and TRIPP, L. W. Oct. 16, 1941, No. 13346. [Class 79 (i)] Endless-track mechanism comprises a track of the "girder " type in which the links cannot straighten out beyond a certain position, the track 2 passing round a driving sprocket 3 at one end and an idler 4 at the other end, and being provided with means for taking the drive from the sprocket and with a roller path for one or more intermediate rollers 8, the weight of the vehicle being shared by the sprocket, the idler and the roller or rollers. In the construction shown, the roller 8 is carried by a lever 9 pivoted on a block 10 on the track frame 1 and controlled by an adjustable spring 13, by means of which the load may be adjusted as required. Endless tracks.-The track comprises links 2 having two forward lugs 15 and locking faces 20 adjacent thereto, and two rear lugs 16 adjacent to which are other locking faces 21 adapted to engage the forward locking faces 20 on the following link. Rollers 19 on the hinge pins 17 are engaged by the teeth of the driving sprocket 3. Roller paths 14 for the roller 8 and idler 4 are provided on each link and ground shoes 22 with spuds 23 may be welded to the link as shown or may be riveted or bolted thereto or formed integrally therewith. The links may have a single interlock at the faces 20, 21 as shown, or they may have a double or multiple interlock which will relieve the hinge pins of all load.
