Abstract
573,944. Gas producers. GALUSHA, A. L. Nov. 18, 1943, No. 19252. Convention date, Aug. 18. [Classes 51 (ii) and 55 (i)] In a gas-producer A to which fuel is fed by gravity from an overhead bin C through shoots D, each of the latter is formed with a branch shoot D' delivering to the central region of the producer where the fuel thus fed is confined by a ring 10. The bin C is surmounted by a storage bunker E, the feed from the bunker to the bin and from the latter to the shoots D being controlled by hand-operated apertured disc valves 21, 22 and 11, 12 respectively. The vertically aligned pairs of valves 11, 21 and 12, 22 are mounted on shafts 31, 32 and have their apertures displaced by 180 degrees, an interlocking mechanism 33, 34, 35 being provided to prevent, at any time, through communication between the bunker E and shoots D. The producer is fitted with an agitator H constructed as described in Specification 573,949 and supported by a yoke 24 attached by a cable 25 to a counterweight 26, means being provided for rotating the agitator and simultaneously raising and lowering it. The rotary movement is effected by a pawl pivoted in a yoke 43 and engaging a ratchetwheel 41 on the hollow agitator shaft 20, the yoke being actuated from a motor 44 through reducing gear 45, Fig. 3, crank disc 46 and telescopic link 49. The spring 51 surrounding, the link 49 is under sufficient tension to operate the agitator under normal conditions, but yields in the event of excessive resistance being encountered. The up-and-down movement of the agitator is effected by a nut 54 carrying a yoke 52 engaging the shaft 20 and threaded on to a screwed shaft 55 which is oscillated in fixed bearings 56, 57 by pawl-and-ratchet mechanism actuated by a connecting rod 61 from the motor-driven crank disc 47. The agitator is cooled by water supplied by a flexible connection 37 to a tube arranged within the shaft 20, the latter serving to convey the outgoing water to the discharge connection 40. The gas generated in the producer passes off through pipe 70 and enters a dust collector F through a tangential inlet fitted with a pivoted valve which is biassed towards the closed position so that the effective area of the inlet opening varies with the flow of gas. A pressure booster G is arranged between the outlet 72 of the dust collector and the gas main 73. Specification 337,005, [Class 51 (ii)], is also referred to.
