[Class 41] Apparatus for plating the inner surfaces of partcylindrical or like articles, such as half-bearings for engine shafts, comprises an elongated trough A, along the bottom of which run a pair of eathodic rails B supporting a number of the articles E end-to-end. An insulating, anode-supporting block C rests on the edges of the latter so as to, cut off the backs and edges of the articles from the anode-rod D. To economize electrolyte, insulating or conducting blocks may fill most of the space at the back of the articles, Fig. 3 (not shown), or, where several pairs of rails B are located side-by-side in one tank, Fig. 6 (not shown), the blocks may occupy the spaces between the rows of articles, clearance being left between the blocks and articles and anode-support C in both cases. The anode may be spaced away from its support C so as not to lie axially of the articles, Fig. 4 (not shown). Insulation covers the securing screws G and extensions of the rails B. In use, the drains H may be left open so as to provide continuous circulation of electrolyte through the apertures J. The arrangement enables accurate pre-fixing of the quantity of electricity required to obtain very thin deposits and no machining of the backs of the articles is necessary. One application is to the formation of a uniform leadindium composition by successive coating with lead and indium.
