Abstract

573,256. Horticultural frames. HAMPSHIRE, E. L. Dec. 8, 1943, No. 20485. [Class 20 (i)] A horticultural glass frame com prises three or more glass sheets held in polygonal formation by two or more spaced wire girdles of polygonal forn which present U- shaped bends to em brace the edges oj the glass sheets bracing wires being provided also to engage the edges of the glass sheets and to preserve the spacing of the girdles. The glass sheets 1, 2 Fig. 1, may be assembled as shown, girdles 4, 5 retaining the sheets in position and kinked bracing wires 11 preserving the girdles at the required spacing. The girdles are of the form shown in Fig. 3, with bent regions 6, 7 to receive the sheets, resilience being provided by formations 8. Loops 9 position the spacing wires and a wire handle 13 is fitted. The sheet 1 may project above the sheets 2 to serve as abutment for an end sheet 3 which is retained on the sheets 2 by crossing bracing wires 12 extending from loops at the front of the upper girdle to loops 10 at the inner side thereof. According to a modification the girdles may be formed with loops 27, Fig. 14, the pivot 29 of a separate wire frame carrying a glass sheet 17, so that the frame may be opened. The frames may be assembled in various ways, e.g., open end to open end to form a closed frame, open face to open face, with the open ends on the ground, for use with tall plants &c. Two units as in Fig. 1 may be assembled as shown in Fig. 16 with one or more intervening sections 18 of uniform section. The bracing wires may be formed as at 24, Fig. 9a, but preferably are corrugated in a single plane as shown in Fig. 10.
