Abstract

572,407. Arsenic. LOWES, A. P., WATSON, J., and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Aug. 28,1940, No. 13562. [Class 82 (i)] Arsenic is precipitated from an aqueous solution of an arsenious compound by means of an alkali metal amalgam, containing for example 0.2-0.3 per cent of sodium, the solution being during at least the greater part of the reaction either strongly acid or strongly alkaline, for example with a pH value greater than 12. The process may be carried out in a continuous manner by passing the solution and amalgam in contact either in countercurrent or otherwise.
