Abstract

571,548. Transferring designs. BOULTON. Ltd., W., and LEWIS, R. T. Feb. 9, 1945, No. 2629/44. [Class 100 (ii)] In apparatus for applying ceramic transfers or prints to pottery, the ware is pressed between dies formed of pads or blocks of slightly resilient material 13, 16 of hard rubber or gelatine with a facing or loose pad 14, 17 of a more highly resilient material such as sponge rubber, one of the dies being shaped to accommodate the articles such as flat plates, and the other die may be formed of convex formation so as to act progressively from the centre outwards. The articles 41, Fig. 3, are advanced to operative position by being placed on the lower band 23 of a conveyer of flannel which is advanced intermittently to bring the articles into printing position. The articles are placed on a pivoted support 38 situated from the pads a distance which is a multiple of the extent of each intermittent motion of the conconveyer. This motion is obtained by a sprocket 27 which is driven by a free-wheel drive from a chain 30 which is operated by a lever 33 and a peg 34 on a wheel 35 adapted to raise a weight 31 on the chain 30 a given distance. When the peg releases the lever 33, the weight 31 drives the sprocket 27 and advances the conveyer. The pressure for transferring the design is produced by reciprocating the upper pad by crank mechanism, or by hydraulic means, and the resiliency of the action is enhanced by the interposition of the two layers of the flannel conveyer.
