Abstract

571,155. Unloading coal &c. SHEPPARD, H. B., and COPPEE CO.(GREAT BRITAIN), Ltd. Aug. 5, 1943, No. 12648. [Class 78 (iv)] Tubs a containing coal, ore &c. are transported and unloaded by inverting them with the top covered by a plate 3, moving them into a lift cage 8 or other transporting device with a base plate 15 for supporting the contents of the inverted tub, and actuating the base plate to discharge the tub at the unloading station. The tubs are inverted by a tippler b operated by a ram 4 and carrying channel-members 2 for the wheels of the tub, and cover plate 3 which may be adjustable or have side walls to prevent. spillage. A ram 5 pushes the inverted tub into a housing pivoted at 9 within the lift cage 8 and having rails 14 for the wheels of the tub. The base plate 15 is pivoted to the housing at 16 and supported at its opposite edge by vertical arms 17 pivoted to the cage 8 at 20. The base plate has a downwardly curved lip 24 and pivoted side walls 25 one of which is lowered to abut or overlap the edge of the cover plate 3 of the tippler b so that the contents of the tub slides over the plate 3 on to the base plate 15. The side wall 25 is then raised and'the lift cage hauled to the unloading station where ramps operate levers 22 to rotate the arms 17 clockwise and move the housing 10 outwardly to discharge the contents of the truck over the sloping base plate 15 and between the side walls 25. As the cage is lowered the levers 22 return the housing 10 to its normal position within the cage and on arriving at the position shown in Fig. 1 the empty tub is pushed out by an incoming full tub into a tippler c for righting the tub, which passes to a train of empty tubs d. The lift cage may comprise two or more superposed pivoted housings 10, and two lift cages may be provided, the tippler being moved to register with either cage, or double tracks being provided, with a tippler for each track. 'According to the Provisional Specification the housing 10 is slidable instead of being pivoted in the lift cage.
