847,139. Skips for handling materials. GRANT LYON & CO. Ltd. Nov. 5, 1958 [Nov. 6, 1957], No. 34564/57. Class 78 (4). A skip for handling sludge has an inwardly hinging bottom 11 the movement of which is restricted, e.g. by a bar 14 joining opposite sides of the skip. In use the skip is lowered into sludge-like material so that the bottom 11 is opened to allow material to flow in. After the skip has been raised it is subsequently emptied by lowering it on to a post so that the post pushes the bottom 11 open to permit the material to flow out. The post may be mounted in the body of a vehicle or in the opening of a disposal hatch leading to a drain.
