Abstract
571,072. Discharge lamps. INGHAM, H. W. DENTON- (Lumalampan Aktiebolag.). Oct. 27, 1943, No. 17710. [Class 39 (i)] [Also in Group XXXV] A high-pressure discharge tube with a glow relay regulated by a bimetal strip in the preheating circuit, has this relay within the tube or an outer envelope containing it, the relay being shielded from the heat of the electrode. In the form shown, the relay 10 having bi-metal strips 11, 13 is shielded by a mica barrier 8 and screens 7 on the ends of the lamp and as an additional safeguard a thermal switch 19 may be provided in addition which opens when the electrodes reach their normal temperature. A lamp for D.C. is described, having one electrode only preheated and without switch 19. A series impedance in the form of an incandescent helix surrounding the discharge vessel may be used. The cathode may be activated with barium oxide.
