Abstract
570,827. Cooling and heating plastic &c. materials. STEEL BAND CONVEYOR & ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., and ALLEN, W. H. March 25, 1944, No. 5578. [Classes 29 and 64 (ii)] Plastic or other material carried on a heat conducting endless conveyer band 1 is cooled or heated by liquid in a trough passing around terminal drums on horizontal axes 6 below the band, the underside of which is in direct contact with the surface of the liquid. The liquid may be circulated by a pump through spray pipes 9 and overflow into side troughs 7, and the edges of the band, as also the middle, may be supported by strips 8 mounted on the walls of the trough. For heating purposes the trough liquid may be molten solder kept hot by burners below. The apparatus described is generally similar to that described in Specification 477,488, and may include ducts above the material under treatment for cooling it by air circulation or for removing fumes, &c. during heat treatment. The cooling or heating may be effected in two or more stages, and where the treated material is insoluble and non absorbent, some of the cooling liquid may be sprayed on to the material from above the band.
