Abstract

569,750. Driving belts. BRUNT, C. H. Aug. 26, 1943, No. 13957. [Class 80 (i)] Relates to V-belting comprising a number of spaced resilient blocks connected together by a flexible belt and extending beyond the edges thereof to form inclined faces to engage the faces of a V-pulley. According to the invention, the blocks are stiffened by metal members of channel section. The belt 1, Figs. 1, 3, extends through a slot 3 and is secured to the block by rivets 4. The stiffening member consists of a sheet metal channel section 7 laid flat on the back of the block with its flanges 8 embracing the sides of the block, and is secured by the rivets 4. In a modification, Fig. 7, the slot 11 is sufficiently wide to accommodate the belt 13 and the channel shape stiffening member 14 with flanges 15. In a further modification, Fig. 8, the slot is replaced by an open gap 18 which receives the belt 19 and a filling member 20 of stiff material. The mouth of the gap is bridged by the channel-shape member 21 the whole of. the parts being secured together by rivets 22. In Fig. 4, the back portion of the block is slit at 10 to facilitate assembly of the blocks on the belt.
