Abstract
569,601. Clutch-actuating mechanism. BROWN TRACTORS, Ltd., D., and MERRITT, H. E. July 1, 1943, No. 10667. [Class 80 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXI] Clutch control mechanism for motor vehicles embodies a spring stronger than the clutch springs, said spring being held inoperative when the clutch is engaged, but which is released when hand or automatic clutch disengagement is to be effected so that it becomes operative to overcome the clutch springs and disengage the clutch. The shaft a carrying the clutch throwout fork b and the foot pedal c has an arm d with a pin e engaging a slot f in one end of a rod g. The other end of the rod g is connected to a hand lever j pivoted at i and having an arm k to which is connected one end of a spring m anchored at n. The spring m is stronger than the clutch springs. An angle-lever catch r pivoted at p has a projection t engaging a pawl u on the hand lever j and is connected by a link s to the implement or other part hitched to or carried by the motor vehicle, which link receives longitudinal motion when an excessive draft load develops. In the position shown the clutch is engaged, the spring m being loaded. When the pawl u is removed from the projection t by actuation of the pivoted hand grip w the hand lever j is freed and the spring m causes clutch disengagement. Alternatively, should excessive draft load develop the catch lever r is rocked to disengage the parts t, u to permit the spring m to disengage the clutch.
