[Class 69 (i)] In a flexible container for fuel or other liquids comprising pieces of material impregnated or coated with material impervious to the liquid, the edges of the pieces being overlapped and secured together, such edges are sandwiched between strips of semi-flexible material considerably thicker than the material of the container, and the strips are clamped together by spaced rivets, bolts or the like, which pass through holes in the strips and the material. A container adapted to be carried on a lorry &c., shown in plan in Fig. 3, comprises strips of woven &c. material coated or impregnated with impervious material such as synthetic rubber, each strip being built up of pieces with their meeting edges 2, Fig. 6, overlapped and held by strips 5, of synthetic rubber &c., and bolts 6; adjacent strips are laid side-by-side with the joints formed by the edges 2 staggered and the meeting edges 4, Fig. 4, of the strips turned outwards and also secured by strips 5 and bolts 6, baffles 3, which may be apertured, being interposed if desired. Abutting ends of strips 5 may be connected by metal fish plates. The ends of the container are similarly attached by strips 5 and bolts, opposite sides of the container converging upwardly. The bottom of the container may be stiffened by transverse rods or tubes secured externally adjacent each joint. The ends may be stiffened by channelshaped members 9, Fig. 15, connected collapsably by links 10; in another form, the stiffening comprises tubes 12, Fig. 16, hinged to the lower edge of the container and attached to the upper edge by a loop 13 of rope &c., a wooden plug 14 closing the tube. One or more filler orifices 15, Fig. 3, are provided, a metal cylinder 16 being fixed therein by a strip 5 and bolts. The bolts 6 may be replaced by rivets, or by smooth-shanked bolts with annular recesses into which split spring washers are snapped, or by press-button fasteners. The container may be further strengthened as by a stressed outer envelope, with or without intermediate wire mesh &c. The baffles may be replaced by flexible triangular members attached to the bottom and adjacent side. Specifications 378,488, 516,159 and 532,802 are referred to.
