Abstract
566,067. Electron oscillators. FLOWERDALE, Ltd., PERELMANN, A., and YOUNG, L. Feb. 11, 1943, No. 2311. [Class 39 (i)] Apparatus for the generation, amplification or frequency changing of. high .frequency oscillations comprises a cathode 20, Fig. 1, Wehnelt cylinder 21 and accelerating electrode 22 for producing a stream of cathode rays which impinges on a secondary electron emitting target anode 35 ; the secondary stream oscillates between the anode and a cylinder 38 by means of a grid 36 held at a potential positive relatively to both. The oscillations induce a cyclically varying potential in an electrode 37 which is fed back through a tuned circuit 39 to a control grid 34 in the path of the primary cathode-ray stream. Alternatively, the potential variations of the electrode 37 may be used to deflect the primary stream on and off the target electrode. In a modification, the oscillations take place in a magnetic field parallel to the direction of the primary stream. Another form of the invention is shown in Fig. 3 and comprises two hollow resonators 41, 45 coupled at 46. The primary stream from the cathode 20, Wehmet cylinder 21 and accelerator electrode 22, is modulated by passing through the first resonator, and impinges on a secondary electron emitting anode 25. The secondary stream passes through the second resonator to a collector 26.
