Abstract
565,546. Electric pick-up devices for sound records. REEVE, L. F. April 13, 1943, No. 5880. [Class 40 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXIX] An electric microphone pick-up is mounted on a flexible diaphragm c in the mouth of an air chamber b, into which pressure can be introduced to push the stylus d into co-operation with a sound record in electric organs. In the pick-up shown in Fig. 2, the microphone comprises carbon pellets e backed by a brass weight f and a phosphor-bronze spring g and held in a tube h by a screw n, which fastens the unit to the diaphragm c with the interposition of washers o. The stylus d is attached to the head of the screw n. The spring g extends through a sealing plug i and is connected to an insulated tube a to form one of the leads, the other being a flexible tag m. In a modification, Fig. 1 (not shown), a spiral spring is arranged against the outside of the diaphragm to urge it inwards, and the electric connection from the spring g to the tube a runs down the tube h, then forms a bent loop to the bottom of the tube b, and runs up the wall of this tube and is fastened to the bottom end of the tube a. The Provisional Specification states that the pick-up may be electromagnetic or piezoelectric.
