Abstract
728,982. Stuffing-box substitutes. BENDIX AVIATION CORPORATION. Jan. 30, 1953 [March 1, 1952], No. 2781/53. Class 122 (5). A device for transmitting rotational movement of limited amplitude through a pressuretight wall 17 to a controlled member 13 comprises a metallic tube 22 arranged to be torsionally deformed above its elastic limit and having one end secured to the controlled member and its other end secured to the wall, and a rotatable element 28 extending through the wall 17 and the tube 22 and having one end secured to the controlled member 12 and its other end projecting beyond the other end of the tube so as to be rotatable from the other side of the wall to rotate the controlled member. The tube 22 is of ductile metal, preferably hard drawn copper tubing subjected to an annealing treatment at about 540‹ C. for about thirty minutes. The end of the element 28 has a slot 30 for screwdriver.
