Abstract
564,312. Haemocytometers. WEBER, E. Aug. 27, 1943, No. 14060. [Class 97 (i)] [Also in Group XXIII] In forming the floor 5 of the counting- chamber of an open-cell haemocytometer by grinding and polishing a corresponding part of the surface of a glass blank, the operating tool and the blank are given a relative angular translatory movement. As shown, blanks 3, worked to a uniform thickness and having four drainage grooves 4 in their upper surfaces, are arranged in a circle on a table 1 and the surface between the two inner grooves is operated on by an annular tool. 6 carried by spokes 7. Either the'table 1 or tool 6 is rotated, or they may both rotate. Preferably, the tool is so mounted that it is free to ride on the work, and therefore exerts a pressure determined by its weight. The width of the operating face of the tool may be greater than or equal to that of the face 5, but preferably it is less, as shown, the tool and work being given slight relative horizontal displacements to cause the whole surface to be operated on. For this purpose the shaft carrying the tool may be mounted in a collar carried by links moved by cams. The tool 6 is preferably a complete annulus, but may consist of a sector or group of sectors.
