Abstract

759,913. Copy-turning. SCHONDORFF, A. Aug. 19, 1953 [Aug. 19, 1952], No. 22861/53. Class 83 (3). A feeler-controlled copying-device, in particular for machining wheel-tyres, comprises two or more tools or groups of tools on a common slide, presented to the work in sequential succession, each tool machining part of the profiled surface, the tools being jointly controlled by a single tracer co-operating with a master template in such manner that when one tool or group of tools has completed its cut another tool or group moves into position for commencing its cut. When three tools 8, 11, 14, Fig. 5, are employed, the carriage first moves to the left and tool 8 turns the portion of the work represented by the broken line 9-10. Tool 11 is in advance of tool 8 and first rough-turns a part of the running surface 12-13. Finally, after a short non-working movement, represented on the single templet 17, Fig. 8, by the portion 20, 25, the tool 14 comes into operation to remove the flange radius 15-16, Fig. 6. The feeler 18, Fig. 8, has a point profile compounded from the radii of the tools used when a doubleflanged wheel is turned.
