Abstract

564,054. Locking screws and nuts. HERBERT, Ltd., A., LLOYD, A. H., and TAYLOR, J. W. June 3, 1943, No. 8905. [Class 89 (i)] Screws and nuts are locked by means of dished discs or washers of deformable material that are flattened after assembly to cause locking engagement. A grub screw 12, Fig. 1, in a member 11 has a conical end 13 engaging a member 14 and is locked by a dished washer 15 that is flattened by a pawl 17 to cause its edge to bite into the screw-threaded wall 16. The hole 20 may be formed for engagement by the same key that engages the hole 19 in the screw. A headed set-screw may have the head sunk below the surface in a counterbore, threads being provided in the counterbore for engagement by a dished washer flattened above the screw head. A grub screw 12, Fig. 7, may be locked by a dished washer 15a located in a counterbore 16a, and a nut may have a counterbore in its' upper face to receive a similar washer. A set-screw 12a, Fig. 8, may be similarly locked, the washer 15a in this case being flattened by a turned-down part 30 of the screw head. Specification 137,041, [Class 89 (i)], is referred to.
