[Classes 69 (ii) and 135] [Also in Group XXXIV] A liquid pressure system for operating a motor unit, e.g. for operating brake bands of an epicyclic gear or for operating clutches, comprises two paths to the motor, one unrestricted and the other restricted by a choke or resistance, the unrestricted path being controlled by a valve influenced in opposite directions by pressure liquid and resilient means. As shown, a valve block having a pressure inlet 22, an outlet 39 to a liquid reservoir, and an outlet 30 to the motor unit, has a valve 44 opened by a plunger 57 and an electromagnetically-operated rod 29 to allow pressure liquid to pass to an aperture 83, from which it may pass to the outlet 30 through a choke constituted by a stack of dished plates 78 with apertures out of register, and also through a groove 68 and apertures 75 in a valve 61. When the pressure in the motor reaches a predetermined value, the valve 61 is moved by the pressure against the resistance of a spring 63 to cut off the supply to the groove 68, and the motor is supplied through the choke only.
