Abstract

563,850. Liquid pressure pumps. AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS CO., Ltd., and CHOUINGS, L. C. May 2, 1940, No. 7923. [Class 69 (ii)] [Also in Group XXVIII] A liquid pressure actuated pump comprises a plurality of plungers 17 reciprocated by a swash-plate 15 in fixed parallel cylinders arranged circumferentially about an axis, the wobbling movement of the swash - plate being effected by a plurality of motor plungers 16 in fixed parallel cylinders 13 also arranged circumferentially about said axis. The swash-plate is mounted in a cavity 14 located between the two cylinder blocks 10, 11 and divided by a diaphragm 38 which separates the pump and motor liquids from each other. It is carried by a spherical head 18 and maintained in oblique position by a substantially conical projection 22 passing lightly through the diaphragm and travelling around a fixed conical projection 23. The projection 22 may be elliptical in cross-section, and the two conical projections may be replaced by a crank. The pump plungers 17 are formed with enlarged heads 24 transversely bored at 25 to receive ball heads on the wash-plate. The motor plungers 16 pass lightly through the diaphragm 38 and have hemispherical heads 28 to enter cavities 31 in the swash-plate. Springs may be provided to retain the motor plungers in contact with the swash-plate, or they may be so connected thereto as to follow its movement on both the pressure and exhaust strokes. The pump plungers may or may not be equal in number to the motor plungers, and their bores and pitch circle are larger than those of the motor plungers. Each pump and/or motor plunger may form a valve to control the flow of liquid to and from the cylinder of an adjacent plunger of the same series. As applied to the motor, each plunger 16 is formed with an annular recess 52 constantly open to a transfer passage 43, 44, 45 leading to the cylinder for which that plunger acts as a valve, the recess connecting the said transfer passage alternately to inlet and outlet connections 47, 46 as the plunger reciprocates. The connections 47, 46 lead to the motor inlet connection 35 and exhaust connection 37 (not shown), the latter through the recess 48 surrounding the conical projection 23. Alternatively, the flow of liquid may be controlled by rotary distributers, or by separate axially moving plungers actuated by the swash-plate. The pump and motor cylinders may be formed in a common block having the swash-plate at one end, the pump cylinders being on a different pitch circle from the.motor cylinders, or being arranged alternately with the motor cylinders on a common pitch circle.
