Abstract
563,826. Anchor nuts &c. ROBERTSON, E. R. May 7, 1943, No. 7293. [Class 89 (i)] [Also in Group XXII] Anchor, clinch, &c. nuts have the nut and anchoring portion made sepafately and secured by brazing. The anchor portion 10, Fig. 5, is stamped from sheet metal and the nut 20 is formed with a spigot 22 which may be a light press fit in the part 10. A ring 25 of copper &c. wire is applied and the parts are brazed in a hydrogen or other reducing or inert atmosphere. A reducible copper compound, brass or other brazing material may be employed and instead of using the ring 25 the brazing material may be appliedby plating or spraying. A spring disc may be clinched on to the part 23 to render the nut self-locking, as described in Specification 557,351. The part 10 may be coned at 10<1> so that after inserting the spigot 22 of the nut and flattening a rigid assembly will be obtained. In the form shown in Fig. 7, a number of indentations 24 may be made to assist in holding the parts prior to brazing. In a modification in which the anchoring lugs 54, Fig. 12, are parallel to the axis of the bolt, the anchor member is in cage form and bent up from a blank 52, Fig. 16. Brazing secures not only the nut 60 to the cage but the bent-up side portions of the cage to the base 51. The nut 60 may have a fibre locking insert added after brazing. In clinch nuts the nut may be brazed to a flat square &c. plate having an axially projecting annular flange on the opposite side to the nut. The nut has a spigot that is a light press fit in the bore of the plate. Specification 552,104 also is referred to.
