Abstract

563,794. Electric follow-up systems. FERRANTI, Ltd., and WOOD, H. April 8, 1943, No. 5008. [Class 40 (i)] [Also in Group XL] A multivibrator of the type having a screening grid and the anodes and control grids crossconnected by condensers, is provided with means for applying a high positive potential to the screen grid of each of the valves during its conductive periods and the low positive potential during its non-conductive periods. As shown, the screen potential is arranged to vary in the required manner by the resistances 20, 21 cross-connected from the screen grid of one valve to the anode of the other valve. In this way the amount of negative potential required to be applied to the control grid is reduced for effective control. The invention is applicable to operating automatic follower mechanism so that movement of the controlling member may cause corresponding movement of the controlled member. In such a case, energizing windings of two electromagnetic clutches are included in the anode circuits and arranged to drive shafts in opposite directions according to which valve is energized. With the controlling member and the controlled member in correspondence the valves conduct alternately and no resultant motion of the shaft occurs. With lack of balance the potential derived from the deviation causes the operation of one or other valve and the driving of the follower mechanism to correct the deviation.
