Abstract
563,068. Typewriters &c. WILLIAMS, W. P. (Standard Register Co.). April 14, 1943, No. 6002. [Class 100 (iv)] In a writing and billing machine in which record sheets 3 with feed perforations 25 are fed together with carbon sheets attached to a carrier 5 around a platen roll 7 which is mounted in lever arms 8 pivoted to links 9 and is movable from the active position, Fig. 3, to the inactive position, Fig. 4, to permit of the introduction of fresh record strips or cards, or the shifting of transfer material interleaved between the record strips or cards, a device is provided to restrain the movement of the platen roll while in its inoperative position, and this device in Fig. 12 takes the form of a detent 49 which engages the ratchet 47 of the line-spacing mechanism. In the operative position of the platen, a detent 48 functions similarly to the detent 49. In the inactive position of the platen, the record strips are held against movement due to the retractive force of the removed transfer material, and this is accomplished by the automatic adjustment of a cam 24 for controlling the radial position of the feed pins 21 which engage the feed apertures 25. This cam is stationary and normally causes the feed pins 21 to be protruded at the upper part of the feed roller's motion, as shown in Fig. 6, but when the roller 7 is moved to inoperative position, the cam 24 is adjusted so as to cause the pins 21 to be projected from the lower part of the roller and the pins engage the holes 25 to hold the sheets 3 stationary. The cam is moved by bifurcated levers 36 adjustably pivoted to the platen shaft, the levers 36 moving from the position shown in Fig. 6 to that shown in Fig. 9 as the platen is raised, owing to engagement of the levers with bearing collars 39 on the tear-off rod 20 carried by swinging arms 19. In the raised position of the platen the record strips extend rearward in a horizontal line, as shown in Fig. 4, thus relaxing binding tension on the interleaved transfer sheets and permitting retraction thereof. During retraction the record strips are held by engagement of the pins 21 in the holes 25. U.S.A. Specification 1,132,055 is referred to.
