Abstract
562,880. Pitot-tubes. DAIBER, E. Aug. 6, 1942, No. 10998. [Class 69 ( A Pitot-tube, more particularly for use in indicating the speed of aircraft, comprises a brass or like tube 11 with a forward dynamic pressure opening 13, the tube being connected as by solder to a rear casting &c. 14 with a transverse wall 17 ; within the tube 11, conducting blocks 39, 42, of brass, copper, &c., are fixed as by solder, the blocks containing electric heating elements 40, 41, and static pressure openings 34, 35, are provided in the tube 11 between the blocks 39, 42. The dynamic pressure is communicated to the speed indicator through a metallic conduit 22 with a downturned front end, through passages 24, 26, in the block 42 and through a conduit 27 ; the static pressure is communicated through passages 32 outside the block 42 and through a conduit 30. The forward end of the block 39 and the rear wall of the block 42 form baffles to trap moisture which is discharged through openings 36, 37. The tube 11 may form the return conductor from the heating elements 40, 41, or a separate return conductor may be provided.
