Abstract

562,828. Photographic developing apparatus. MORSE, S. H. March 30, 1943, No. 5106. [Class 98 (ii)] - Prints are developed by exposing them in the form of stationary rolls in a chamber to a heated source of moist ammonia or other developing gas or vapour, the temperature in the chamber being kept so high that condensation does not occur on the prints, and air being aspirated through the chamber after development by opening a damper at the top of the chamber leading to a ventilating pipe. The developing chamber may comprise a support for the prints a tray for developing liquid below the support, means for delivering a regulated flow of developing liquid to the tray, an upper damper leading to the ventilating pipe, and, if desired, also a lower damper near the tray for admitting air to the chamber for aspiration. The apparatus shown comprises a cabinet 1 of square, rectangular, or circular cross-section, having walls 16 of absorbent material such as cement, and a hinged or sliding lid 1a which may be of glass to facilitate inspection of the progress of development. The rolled prints 18 are supported on a perforated shelf 20 capable of a limited rocking movement by a hand lever 15. Below the shelf is a tray 8 fitted with an electric or other heater 9, and fed with developing liquid through a drip-pipe 7 receiving the liquid through a regulating valve 5 and glass sight 4 from a storage tank 3, which is provided with a float 3a and a screw-cap 25 through which the indicator 26 of the float projects. An outlet valve 10 for excess liquid is provided, and may deliver continuously into a bottle. For aspirating air through the chamber, manually-operable coupled dampers 11, 13 are provided over apertures in the sides of the chamber, the lower inlet damper opening directly to the air, and the upper outlet damper to a ventilating pipe 13a. The walls 16 may be heated to prevent condensation thereon, as by making them hollow and heating the interspace.
