Abstract

1350259 Introducing combustion catalysts R MAINGEOT 8 June 1971 [8 June 1970] 19360/71 Headings C5G G10A and G11 A combustion catalyst, such as manganese methyl cyclopentadienyl tricarbonyl, is introduced into a combustion chamber as a homogeneous mixture with the combustion air. A liquid catalyst, or a solution of a catalyst, is adsorbed by a wick 18 to impregnate a porous plate 3 through which combustion air is blown by a fan 6. The outlet of the device may be spaced from the air inlet 19 of the combustion chamber so that additonal air is entrained. The porous plate 3 may dip into the catalyst liquid, or the container for the catalyst may be arranged to one side of the plate 3. In another embodiment, Fig. 5, baffles 3 formed of cloth stretched on frames 27 dip into the catalyst liquid which is heated by a tubular element 28 arranged so that the heat delivered to the liquid decreases as the liquid level falls. Air from a fan 6 passes round the baffles 3 to entrain catalyst vapour. A damper controls the amount of air delivered.
