Abstract

562,801. Sealing and packing ring. AC-SPHINX SPARKING PLUG CO., Ltd., and BROWNE, D. B. Jan. 28, 1943, No. 1427. [Class 125 (iii)] [Also in Group XXVI] A packing ring for sealing the enclosures of containers or vessels consists of a rubber &c. annulus 10 having limbs 10b which are normally outwardly splayed but which can be brought together so that a space 10c is formed between these limbs and a relatively thin portion 10d which becomes arched when the limbs 10b are brought together. The packing ring may be used as illustrated, or it may be mounted on member 12 of the container after the fashion of a piston ring. The ring may be made by moulding or by extrusion. According to the Provisional Specification, the limbs 10b may be secured air-tight together. so that the ring becomes a tube.
