Abstract
562,625. Drying painted cans. JAMES, H. H., and JAMES, W. Jan. 13, 1943, No. 609. [Class 34 (ii)] [Also in Group XXX] Surplus liquid paint is removed from the interior of cans by placing the inverted cans on a slow-moving conveyer so that the paint may drain out through the can spouts-on to an inclined trough extending alongside the conveyer. The cans a are transferred from the delivery end of this conveyer on to the top conveyer d<1> of a series of three superposed conveyers d<1>, d<2>, d<3>, being laid thereon on a narrow side with the spouts a<1> downward to drain on to a trough f. On reaching the end of conveyer d<1> the cans are guided by a baffle plate e to fall in similar configuration on to the next conveyer d<2>. On arrival at the delivery end of this latter, the cans are transferred by hand on to a slope d<4> from the bottom of which they are placed inverted on the conveyer d<3> which is off-set from the upper conveyers. A sump d<5> receives the drainings from slope d<4>. The cans are taken from the delivery end of conveyer d<3> and fastened on to a motor-rotated frame g with their spouts a' pointing radially outward. The frame g is contained in a drying chamber h fed with hot 'air through a duct k fitted with a fan j and gas heater l. The frame is given a few turns in one direction so as to fling out any remaining surplus paint centrifugally, and then rotated in the opposite sense to cause the air to enter and circulate within the cans.
