Abstract

562,302. Electron velocity modulated tubes. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. (International Standard Electric Corporation). Nov. 24, 1941, No. 15102. [Class 39 (i)] In a velocity modulated discharge tube, wherein (i) a drift space is provided for the modulated beam to "bunch," and (ii) the velocity of the beam is controlled by the potential applied to a control electrode 4 within the drift space, this electrode is supported by three symmetrical rods 5 and the potential is applied to the electrode through one or all of the rods. The tube 7 housing the electrode 4 may be of larger diameter than the tubes on the walls 1, 1a so that the passage C for the electron beam may be of the same diameter throughout its length.
