Abstract
561,217. Wall plugs. SMITH, L. TWEEDIE-, and RAWLPLUG CO., Ltd. Oct. 5, 1942, No. 13949. [Class 89 (i)] Relates to wall plugs of fibrous material held in tubular form by a binding agent. or cement and consists in including in the material a small proportion of oil. Preferably the fibrous material is jute, the binding agent albumen and the oil a mineral oil or an animal oil such as neatsfoot oil. The proportion of oil is from 0.5 to 10 per cent of the binding agent and it is added as an emulsion to the binding agent in solution, the fibrous material being passed through the liquid prior to formation - into a tube. The oil facilitates production in that the plug moves freely over the mandrel in the consolidating machine and it facilitates the driving home of the screw or nail in use. It increases the water resistance of the plug, affords added resistance to corrosion of the screw &c. and does not encourage fungus or other bacterial growth.
