Abstract
560,183. Calculating - apparatus. BLACKMORE, D. W., FRISELL, B., and WALLACE & TIERNAN, Ltd. Sept. 22, 1942, No. 13350. [Class 106 (i)] A slide rule for calculations relating to the addition of chlorine or other chemical reagent to water or other fluids has a treatment rate scale and an injection rate scale on one part and a water flow scale and index on the other part. The treatment rate scale a on the stock A represents the number of parts of the reagent to be added per million parts of the fluid and the injection rate scale b is expressed in gallons or pounds to be added per time unit. On the slide B opposite the treatment rate scale is arranged the flow scale c in gallons per hour' and opposite the injection rate scale is an index mark C shown as an arrow projecting from a rectangle. A fourth scale d representing a range of solution concentrations is provided on the slide to co-operate with the injection rate scale when graduated in gallons per unit time. Additional scales e, f and an index mark SC are provided to co-operate with the scale d for use in calculating the amount of reagent necessary to form a solution of a desired strength from a concentrate of known strength. Calcutations relating to the rate of flow can be effected by the provision of scales g, h and i representing capacity in gallons, pipe diameter and length respectively together with an index mark C. A time scale j may be provided for use in determining the time required for a unit of fluid to flow through a given length of pipe. An index mark V may be provided to co-operate with the injection rate scale b for determining the velocity of flow through the pipe.
