Abstract
559,503. Hydrolysing proteins. PYRENE CO., Ltd., TRESISE, D. J., and RATZER, A. F. Oct. 1, 1942, No. 13798. [Class 2 (iii)] [Also in Group XXI] In the production of a foam-generating substance by hydrolysing protein material by means of an excess of an alkaline earth metal or magnesium oxide or hydroxide the excess hydrolysing agent is neutralized with an acid such as hydrochloric acid which will convert the metal of the hydrolysing agent into a soluble sale. As an example, 2,500 lbs. of hoof and horn meal mixed with 800 lbs. of slaked lime and 560 gallons of water are heated for 6 hours at 98‹ C., the product filtered and the filtrate neutralized with hydrochloric acid.
