Abstract
559,345. Impact crushing apparatus. CROSS, E. J. (Nordberg Manufacturing Co.). Dec. 22, 1942, No. 18189. [Class 59] The impeller member 5 Figs. 1 and 2, of an impact crusher is formed with a number of spiral faces 6 at the junctions of which are formed cylindrical pockets 9 each receiving cylindrical extensions 22, 23 on lugs 21 depending from an impact bar 15. The lugs 21 are inserted in the pockets through recesses 13, 14 in their upper walls and the impact member is then moved endwise to cause a locking lug 25 at the rear of the bar 15 to engage the recess 14. In this position the extensions 22, 23 engage by centrifugal force lugs 12 at the upper portion of the pockets 9, the engagement being mantained at low speeds or when the impeller is at rest by wedge elements 40, 41 thrust apart by a coil spring 42 and engaging inclined surfaces 11 in a guideway at the bottom of the pocket 9. The bar 15 is formed with a radial forward. face 19, a forward edge surface 16, a rearwardly sloping face 17, and a sloping inner face 20 from which depend the lugs 21. The weages are drawn together by a central bolt when the impeller member is to be removed. Fig. 10, shows a modified construction of impact bar provided with lugs having a semi-cylindrical face 82 and downwardly extending flanges 83. The bar 80 is held in position laterally by engagement with a screw 86 on the impeller member and its centre of mass X is displaced radially by a distance Z from the centre Y of the face 82 so that the bar is thrust outwards by centrifugal force. In another modification the impact bar head 109 has a removable manganese steel wear plate 115 formed on its rear surface with hooks 116 and lugs 118 engaging the toe 117 and recesses in the head 109.
