Abstract

559,216. Artificial arm joints. STEEPER, Ltd., H., and HOARE, D. C. Aug. 4, 1942, No. 10850. [Class 81 (ii)] Elbow or wrist joints for artificial arms in which partial rotary movement is required, comprise a joint member 2, to be attached to one of the arm members, the lower flange of the member 2 being cut away interiorly over an arc to allow a pin 3, carried by the other joint member 1, limited rotary movement with the other arm member 12. A ball 8, spring- pressed at 9, operates as a detent to hold the joint members 1, 2 in their adjusted relationship, the ball 8 engaging with one of a number of holes 6 in the lower flange of member 2. The degree of compression in the spring 9 is adjusted by a knurled wheel 5a and screw 5 operating in a bush 4 on the joint member 1 so that the ball 8 may be jammed in a hole to lock the members 1, 2 together. The joint members 1, 2 are held together by a disc 7 screwed &c to the member I.
