Abstract

559,213. Automatic control systems for D.C. motors. VICKERS-ARMSTRONGS. Ltd., and WATSON, J. P. July 28, 1942, No. 10564. Drawings to Specification. [Class 38 (iv)] Speed.-A D.C. motor, driving a gyroscope for example, is maintained at a desired speed by means of a small alternator which it drives and a resonant circuit of adjustable periodicity connected to its output. A relay, adjusted to operate and to release at points on the steepest part of the resonance curve which are close together and lie within the permitted speed variation, cuts in or out a resistance in the field or armature circuit of the motor. An arrangement is described in which the relay is connected through a rectifier bridge across a condenser in the resonant circuit, and in which the relay operates through a second relay with more robust contacts.
