[Class 2 (ii)] [Also in Group XVII] For hermetically closing the mouth of a jar or like container by pressing a lid or stopper against the mouth of the container, a thermoplastic washer is provided composed of a mixture comprising nitro-cellulose or ethylcellulose, polyvinyl acetate or polyvinyl acetal, and a plasticizer such as dibutyl phthalate. A specified material, which is not thermoplastic below 100‹C., comprises nitro-cellulose or ethyl cellulose, a polyvinyl acetal, tricresyl phosphate and urea- or melamine-formaldehyde resin.
