Abstract

558,388. Sinks. SINCOCK, R. J. E. March 30, 1942, No. 4242. [Class 26] [Also in Group VI] A garbage receptacle for use in combination with and at the side of a domestic sink comprises a basin A and a container G, having perforations in the middle of the bottom, which fits into the basin and has distance pieces J thereon, whereby a free air-space is provided between the walls and bottom of the container and the basin, the bottom of the basin being provided with an outlet opening B, independent of the sink outlet, for draining liquid away from the garbage in the container, so that such liquid is prevented from entering the sink. The basin may be secured to the underside of a draining board E below an aperture therein, said aperture having a lid K the surface of which lies flush with the surface of the draining board. The basin may, alternatively, be arranged in a corner of or at the side of the sink M, Figs. 2 & 8, the top of the partition A<SP>1</SP> between sink and basin being below the level of the sink top, so that the basin forms an overflow chamber for the sink. The outlet B from the basin may be connected by a passage P to the sink outlet N, said passage being formed in the base of the unit, as shown in Fig. 2 so that only one waste pipe fitting is necessary, or separate pipes may be employed as shown in Fig. 3. A rinsing basin Q, Fig. 3, may be arranged at the side of the sink opposite to the basin A, the outlet pipe R from the rinsing basin being quite separate, or being connected to the sink outlet pipe N. The basin A may be provided with oppositely disposed bearing members L, Fig. 1, for the reception of trunnions or stub shafts of a rotary drum scraper for potatoes or other vegetables, in substitution for the garbage container. The scraper may be in the form of a metal drum having inwardly directed rasp teeth formed by punching out tongues of the metal. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 339,467, [Class 26].
