Abstract

558,179 Vehicle lamps. DENNIS, E. D. June 19, 1942, No. 2875/43. Divided out of 558,062. [Classes 39 (ii) and 75 (iv)] A vehicle lamp comprises a standard type of lamp casing containing a parabolic reflector 1 fitted with an electric bulb 2 either rendered wholly translucent by a white heat-resisting paint or completely enclosed by a translucent shroud and fitted with a mask having reflecting elements to amplify the light issuing in near and wide angular zones. In the construction shown in Fig. 1 the masking 20 is fitted with reflecting "toothings" 21 and the bulb 2 is surrounded by a shroud consisting of two hemispherical members 3, 7 threaded together or having a bayonet slot connection. The member 3 may be of opalescent glass or fire-resistant plastic material and is mounted on a flanged metal cap 4 formed with depressions enabling it to be slipped over the bayonet pins on the bulb cap. The cap 4 may be fitted with securing screws. A plano-convex front lens 9 or plain front 'glass 10 may be provided. Fig. 4 shows another construction in which the mask device described in Specification 558,062 having side reflector plates 12 and "toothings" 13 is secured to the front of the lamp casing. A transparent glass sheet 17 is supported by brackets 16 behind the louvre units.
