Abstract

536,778. Lamps. DENNIS, E. D. Jan. 6, 1940, No. 358. [Classes 75 (ii) and 75 (iv)] In a lamp in which rays from a light source disposed within a closed casing are directed by a lens to a reflector or diffusing element at or adjacent to the focus of the lens, a hood or shroud encloses the light beam between the lens and reflector or diffusing element. In one form, Fig. 1, a lamp 2 is carried by the upper part 5 of a closed casing 1 having a lens 9 directing the rays to a mirror or frosted element 10 adjustable by a screw 11 so that it may. be disposed at or near the focus of the lens 9. A hood having an internal frosted diffusing surface encloses the beam between the lens and element 10. The casing part 5 is adjustable on the body 1 by a set screw passed through registering holes and diaphragms 15-18 are provided to intercept rays reflected from the inner surface of the casing 1. In a modification the casing 1 and the hood consist of a single conical element with a diaphragm containing the lens and the reflector 10 is secured to a translucent sheet extending across the base of the cone. In a further modification, Fig. 3, the axis of the hood 31 is at right angles to the beam. Two or more lamps and casings 30, 32 may be provided with a common hood 31.
