Abstract
558,156. Riveting. BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO., Ltd., HENSHAW, J. N., and FORMAN, A. W. June 19, 1942, No. 8397. [Class 43] A "break-stem" mandril for use in blind riveting has the stem portion tapering through all or a major portion of its length between the head 9 and the waist 5 of the constriction. The cross-section of the stem adjacent the head is circular and larger than that of the stem 7 at the side of the constriction remote from the head. Between the circular portion and the waist 5 the tapering portion becomes more and more oval. The mandril is made by cold forging between a pair of dies, the head being formed by an upsetting tool moving axially of the mandril. Specifications 501,415, 504,928 and 555,804 are referred to.
