Abstract
557,937. Bottle &c. stoppers. TAYLOR, W. I. June 6, 1942, No. 7731. [Class 125 (iii)] A stopper for the neck of a bottle or the like, e.g. a military drinking-water bottle, comprises a core with a resilient layer of yarn cross-wound thereon and a flexible skin covering the yarn. The core 9 may be of wood or a mouldable thermoplastic or thermosetting compositon and when of wood or other porous material may be waterproofed by soaking in molten paraffin wax. The tape at the small end of the core may be made pronounced near the small end and less pronounced near the large end, then in the middle and the core may be circumferentially grooved to assist in retaining the yarn thereon. An extension 2 of the core is drilled to take a string 7 for attachment to the bottle. The fibres of the yarn may comprise a material which is soluble in an organic solvent, e.g. cellulose acetate or other organic derivative of cellulose, and the flexible skin may be formed on the surface of the resilient layer by the action of such solvent or water-resistant film-forming substance in a volatile organic liquid to the resilient layer.
