Abstract

557,109. Reproducing drawings. KODAK, Ltd. (Eastman Kodak Co., Wynd, C. L. A., and Lane, G T.). April 29, 1942, No. 5786. [Classes 98 (i) and 98 (ii)] [Also in Group XL] In the photographic reproduction of engineering drawings and like patterns an original drawing is made in fluorescent material which is on an opaque support say of aluminium or plywood permeable to X-rays. On a second similar support are superposed (i) a layer of fluorescent material, (ii) a light filter or screening material, and (iii) a light sensitive emulsion. The original drawing is now reproduced on the emulsion and during the fixing process or by other means the light filter or screen-which was opaque to light -is made transparent. By this means mirror images of the original drawing are obtained, which can be used to obtain symmetrical templates for example templates of the right and left hand doors of an automobile. The luminescent layer may be calcium tungstate in a cellulose ester solution which is water resistant, or barium fluorochloride in a binder as described in Specification 557,102 may be used. The screening layer may be manganese dioxide or a non- wandering dye in gelatine, a cellulose ester partially hydrolysed until water permeable, or a resin. The sensitive layer may be applied by the methods described in Specifications 553,341, 554,292 and 549,371. The fluorescent material may be activated by U.V. or cathode rays or, if the radiation will not pass through the support, phosphorescent means may be used. Specification 548,795 also is referred to.
