Abstract
556,790. Sparking plugs. MORISON, W. J., and EASTERN NATIONAL OMNIBUS CO., Ltd. June 12, 1942, No. 8042. [Classes 7 (ii) and 7 (iv)] Relates to a sparking plug assembly for a compression - ignition engine which does not normally use a sparking plug- The assembly is adapted to protect the. plug from oil mist from within a valve cover 32 and comprises a contact rod 16 attached to the plug terminal 18 and surrounded along the greater part of its length by a glass or other insulating tube 10 sealed on the plug body 20 and held at the upper end by a securing member 14 screwed on the contact rod 16. As shown, the tube 10 extends through an opening 34 in the valve cover 32 and is enclosed by a tubular adaptor 36. The lower end of the adapter is secured to an end portion 42 housed in an enlargement 40 of the opening 24 in the cylinder head, and a flange 38 on the upper end of the adapter is, engaged by studs 50 equipped with nuts for securing the adapter, cork washers 12, 30 are provided between the tube 10 and the members 14, 20. In a modification, the flange on the adapter is situated within the valve cover 32.
