Abstract

556,396. Moulding concrete, plaster &c. ; toys. SOMMERFELD, A. Jan. 28, 1942, No. 1191. [Class 87 (ii)] [Also in Group XV] The casting base is made of magnetized metal or has electromagnets incorporated therewith, and some or all of the mould parts or cores are wholly or partly made of magnetizable metal, whereby the mould and cores can be built up and held in place on the base by magnetic attraction. Fig. 1 shows electromagnets 6 which hold in place a movable mould wall 3, the wall 2 being fixed to the base 1. End walls 4 may be held to the base by magnetic attraction, or may be secured to the base or to the wall 3. Electrical heating elements may be incorporated in the walls 2, 3, or in the base or in both, to accelerate the setting of the material. The invention may be applied to the casting of model buildings as described in Specification 546,860. Thus, Fig. 2 shows strips 7 and cores 8, having iron or steel shoes 7a, 8a, which rest on a transparent sheet 10 superposed on a drawing 9 resting on a magnetized metal base 1. The base 1 may consist of strips or pieces of magnetized metal mounted on a wooden board or in a frame, or may be of wood or metal having a series of electromagnets associated therewith. The surfaces of the sheet 10 and of the shoes 7a, 8a may be roughened to obviate slipping.
